The Sêr Solar/Sunrise Symposium was held at Bay Campus, Swansea University on 9th November 2017. The event started with the Launch of SUNRISE project over lunch. SUNRISE is a £7m GCRF funded project, an ambitious programme to rapidly accelerate and prove low cost printed PV and tandem solar cells for use in off grid Indian communities within the lifetime of the project. The symposium, with over 100 attendees, started with a Keynote from Henry Snaith (University of Oxford, Physics Dept.) on enabling highly efficient and long term stable perovskites solar cells. It was followed by an oral presentation on device physics from Paul Meredith, who has established his research group in Swansea University after taking up the Research Chair at the new Sêr Cymru program in Sustainable Advanced Materials (SAM).
After the break, there was a very interesting keynote presentation from Satish Ogale, where gave us an overview on the PV work done at the National Chemical Laboratory in Pune (India), followed by Trystan Watson and James Durrant presenting on the great work done at Swansea and Imperial in the perovskite and OPV area, respectively.
We had some industrial presence including SPECIFIC strategic partners NSG and TATA and also some other companies that have more recently engaged with SPECIFIC such as Big Solar, Pallisser Engineers Ltd and Johnson Matthey.
The Sêr Solar Team presented numerous posters which gave a very good overview of the outstanding work that that is currently conducted in Swansea University in many different technologies within PV area.
The event was very well received; people very much enjoyed networking over lunch and poster session. Please keep up to date for our upcoming events!
