Covid-19 Statement

SPECIFIC is committed to caring for the health and well-being of our staff and partners. Following guidance from Swansea University / UK Government, and to ensure the safety of our staff, we are all now working remotely where possible.

Despite this change of focus, we remain committed to our research, innovation and working with collaborators as best we can. Sadly, tours and visits to our Active Buildings are now on hold. However, we can offer you the next best thing by inviting you immerse yourself in the Office and Classroom via our virtual tour.

We’re proud to say our staff members have been incredibly pro-active in volunteering their services / resources to the community: from donating huge amounts of supplies to the NHS, to coordinating local aid groups, to manufacturing antibacterial hand-gel. And of course, where there’s sunshine, there’s energy! So we’ll still be exporting back to the local energy network and ensuring our EVs are fully charged to assist with local deliveries.

It’s an unprecedented time for the UK, and we must work collectively to support our amazing NHS and vulnerable individuals – we’ll get through this together.

Statement from Dave Worsley [Vice President (Innovation) at Swansea University and PI at SPECIFIC]

“Whilst these are challenging times indeed for all of us our mission to decarbonise energy continues and we will also be working with local authority and health board teams to support both distribution and storage of essential materials and also in supporting centralised scale up of supply of certain shortfall items such as hand sanitiser! As usual the team have pulled together brilliantly and are working with the new ‘zoom’ approaches to meetings and face to face catch up. If there is anything you want from us, don’t hesitate to get in touch, and above all stay safe, stay in contact and stay positive.”
